#FreeHaiti: From Boukman & Manbo Fatiman to Moïse & Madan Jovenel Reading List
The fundamental goal of this reading list is to introduce scholars and the general public to the Haitian people’s long quest to decolonize the land known as Hispaniola. Their ability to finish and further their revolutionary project is socially, economically, and politically contextualized through the following text so that readers may grasp the ways racism, xenophobia, political intervention, and imperialism have muddled Haiti. In the wake of President Jovenel Moïse’s assassination and the attempted assassination of First Lady Martine Moïse (Madan Jovenel) on July 7, 2021, Haiti remains vulnerable to the United States and other world powers’ notorious intervention and occupation. Yet the movement for Black lives and Decolonization cannot be ignored. Information about the assassination of Jovenel Moïse is still unfolding, this reading list will be updated to include further relevant details as they become available.
